Hitting the Open Road: Masonic Motorcycle Clubs

The rumble of engines, the wind in your hair, the open road stretching ahead – for many Masons, motorcycling offers a sense of freedom and camaraderie that complements the bonds of brotherhood found in the lodge. And it’s no surprise that Masonic motorcycle clubs have sprung up, offering a unique blend of riding passion and fraternal connection.

While several Masonic riding groups exist, each with its own character and focus, I want to shine a light on the Free Runners Masonic Order (FRMO) (www.frmoww.com). I’m proud to be the Secretary of our Oklahoma F5 Chapter, and I can tell you firsthand that these guys are a special breed.

FRMO: A Brotherhood Forged on the Road

FRMO was founded in 2012 by two US Marine veterans who saw a need for a Masonic riding group that embraced a different kind of brotherhood. It’s a place for Masons who might not feel they fit the mold of the traditional lodge, those who have a bit of a rebellious streak, a love for the open road, and a desire for a tighter-knit community.

What sets FRMO apart?

  • These guys are more than just riding buddies; they’re true brothers who support each other on and off the road.
  • Every year, FRMO chapters from across the country gather for a national rally, a chance to ride together, share stories, and strengthen those fraternal bonds.
  • FRMO is dedicated to serving its communities, supporting local charities and causes.
  • While FRMO was founded by veterans, it’s open to all Master Masons who share a passion for riding.

Other Masonic Motorcycle Clubs

FRMO isn’t the only game in town. Here are a few other Masonic motorcycle clubs worth checking out:

Masons First, Riders Second

No matter which patch we wear or what kind of bike we ride, it’s crucial to remember that we are all Masons first. We all took the same obligations, and we all uphold the same values of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. These riding groups are an extension of our Masonic brotherhood, a way to express our shared passion for motorcycling while strengthening the bonds that unite us.

The Benefits of Masonic Riding Groups

Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just starting out, joining a Masonic motorcycle club offers a unique blend of benefits:

  • Fellowship: Connect with like-minded brothers who share your passion for riding.
  • Charity: Participate in rides and events that support worthy causes.
  • Adventure: Explore new roads and destinations with your brothers.
  • Personal Growth: Develop leadership skills and forge deeper bonds with your fellow Masons.

Hit the Road with Your Brothers

If you’re a Mason who loves to ride, I encourage you to explore the world of Masonic motorcycle clubs. Whether you join FRMO or another group, you’ll find a brotherhood that extends beyond the lodge walls and onto the open road.
